# Taisho Tripitaka Vol. 19, No. 1022B Dhāraṇī of the Seal on the Casket [of the Secret Whole-body Relic of the Essence of All Tathāgatas]
大廣智 不空 奉 詔譯
Translated by Tripitaka Master Amoghavajra (705-774)
如是我聞。
Thus have I heard 。
一時佛在摩伽陀國無垢園中 寶光明池 。
On one occasion, the Buddha was staying in the country of Magadhā, at the Immaculate Garden , near the Precious Light Pond [Ratnaprabha] .
與大 菩薩 及大 聲聞 天龍藥叉犍闥婆訶蘇羅 迦樓羅 緊那羅 摩睺羅伽 人非人 等
and surrounded by an assembly of countless Great Bodhisattvas , Great Sravakas (Sound Hearers) , devas, dragons ,asuras , demons (yaksas) , gandharvas , kinnaras ,yakshsas , mahoragas , nagas , garudas , humans and non humans ...
無量百千。前後圍遶。
All in this infinite assembly were circumambulating the Buddha .
爾時眾中有一 大婆羅門 名無垢妙光多聞聰慧人所樂見。
At that time , there was in the assembly a high Brahman named Immaculate Wonderful Light . He was a wise man with profound wisdom. All the people were delighted to see him .
常行 十善 歸信 三寶 。善心殷重智慧微細。
He took refuge in theTriple Jewels and always practiced ten virtues. He was very compassionate and wise .
常恒欲令一切眾生。圓滿善利大富豐饒。
He always wished for all living beings to be wealthy and benevolent .
時 婆羅門 無垢妙光從座而起。往詣佛所遶佛七匝。
At that time, this Brahman Immaculate Wonderful Light rose from his seat and walked around the Buddha seven times .
以眾香華奉獻 世尊 。
He offered incense and flowers to the World-honored One 。
無價妙衣瓔珞珠鬘持覆佛上。頂禮雙足却住一面作是請言。
beautiful clothes and a priceless necklace , and paid homage at the Buddha feet , stood by one side and made the request :
唯願 世尊 與諸大眾。明日晨朝至我宅中受我供養。
-We wish to invite the World-honored One and his assembly to come to our house tomorrow morning and to accept our offerings .
爾時 世尊 默然許之。時 婆羅門 知佛受請。
At that time , the World-honored One stood silent ; the brahman knew that his invitation had been accepted .
遽還所住。即於夜間廣辦餚膳百味飲食。
He returned home quickly and during that night prepared one hundred delicious foods and drinks .
灑掃殿宇張施幡蓋。至明旦己與諸眷屬。
He cleaned all his halls and rooms and hung many banners and canopies . The next morning ,
持眾香華及諸妓樂。至 如來 所白言時至。願垂降臨。
with incense , flowers and a musical band , he and his relatives arrived at the Buddha retreat and announced : -It is the right time , please come to our house .
爾時 世尊 軟語。安慰彼 婆羅門 無垢妙光。
At that time, the Buddha answered the Brahman kindly
遍告大眾宣言。
and made an announcement to the Assembly :
汝等皆應往彼 婆羅門 家攝受供養。為欲令彼獲大利故。於時 世尊 即從座起。
- All of you should go to the Brahman ‘s house and accept the offerings , so that he may gather great benefits . Then the World-honored One stood up from his seat .
纔起座已。從 佛身 出種種光明。
Various colored lights shone brightly from the Buddha’s body
間錯妙色照觸 十方 。悉皆警覺然後趣道。
in the ten directions as soon as He stood up . All the people saw the spectacle and began to leave .
時 婆羅門 以恭敬心持妙香華。
The Brahman and his relatives were walking with wonderful incense and flowers .
與諸眷屬及 天龍八部 釋梵 四王。先行治道奉引 如來 。
All the celestials , dragons , eight divisions of divinities , four guardian God-kings were walking in front to clear and guide the way for the Buddha .
爾時 世尊 前路不遠。中至一園名曰豐財。
At that time the Buddha had walked a small distance and arrived at a park named Prosperity .
於彼園中有古朽塔摧壞崩倒荊棘掩庭蔓草封戶。
In that garden, there was an old dilapidated stupa covered with brambles and buried in broken tiles and rocks .
瓦礫埋隱狀若土堆。爾時 世尊 逕往塔所。
It looked like a mound of mud . The Buddha walked to this stupa .
于時塔上放大光明照耀熾盛。於土聚中出聲讚言。
The stupa suddenly shone very brightly . A voice from the mound praised thus :
善哉善哉 釋迦牟尼 。今日所行極善境界。
‘-Good indeed ! Good indeed ! Śākyamuni . Your walk today is very beneficial .
又 婆羅門 汝於今日獲大善利。
Moreover, Brahman , you will get great benefits today .
爾時 世尊 禮彼朽塔右繞三迊。脫身上衣用覆其上。
Then the Buddha paid respect to the stupa and walked clockwise around the stupa three times .The Buddha took off his outer gown to cover the mound .
泫然垂淚涕血交流。泣已微笑。當爾之時 十方 諸佛。
He then wept profoundly . After weeping, he started to smile . At that time all Buddhas from ten directions were watching and weeping .
皆同觀視亦皆流淚。各所放光來照是塔。
They were emitting bright lights toward this stupa .
于時大眾驚愕變色互欲決疑。
All the people present were frightened and perplexed . Together they asked the Buddha to explain this doubt.
爾時金剛手 菩薩 等亦皆流淚。威焰熾盛執杵旋轉。
At that time Vajrapani [ Diamond Hand] Bodhisattva who wept seriously walked to the Buddha with his thunderbolt turning in his hand and asked the Buddha :
往詣佛所白言 世尊 。此何 因緣 現是光相。
“ Why do these lights shine so brilliantly ? Why do you weep ?
何 如來 眼流淚如是。亦彼 十方 諸佛大瑞光相現前。
Why are all the Buddhas from ten directions making appearances with such a bright radiance ?
唯願 如來 於此大眾解釋我疑。時 薄伽梵 告金剛手。
We wish for the Tathagata to show mercy and explain all these events to the Assembly .’ Then the Buddha answered Vajrapani :
此大全身 舍利 積聚 如來 寶塔。
This stupa contains the whole body relics of the Tathagata s .
一切 如來 無量 俱胝 心 陀羅尼 密印法要今在其中。
This stupa contains all the esoteric Dharanis of all the Tathagata s
金剛手有此法要在是中故。
Vajrapani, Because this stupa contains the Essence of Dharma .
塔即變為重疊無隙如胡麻子。 俱胝 百千 如來 之身。
this stupa has become very thick and deep, like a pile of sesame seed, with kotis hundred thousand (an infinite number) of the Buddhas’ bodies inside .
當知亦是如胡麻子。百千 俱胝 如來 全身 舍利 之聚。
You must know that similar to the pile of sesame seed 。hundred thousand kotis (an infinite number ) of the relics of whole bodies of Tathagata s are assembled inside 。
乃至八萬四千 法蘊 亦在其中。
Even the eighty four thousand Dharmas are kept inside this stupa .
九十九百千萬 俱胝 如來 頂相亦在其中。
Ninety nine hundreds of thousands of millions of the Buddhas’ excellent spirits are here contained .
由是妙事是塔所在之處。有大神驗殊勝威德。能滿一切世間吉慶。
Because of this wonderful reason, no matter where it is located, this stupa has an awesome power that is extremely magnificient and capable of fulfilling all good wishes of all people in the entire world .
爾時大眾聞佛是說。
When the assembly finished listening to the Buddha’ s teaching ,
遠塵離垢斷諸 煩惱 得 法眼淨 。
they got rid of all afflictions and all their worries were gone . They obtained clear Dharma eyes .
時眾機異利益亦別 須陀洹 果 斯陀含果 阿那含果 阿羅漢果 辟支佛 道。
They also obtained different benefits . Some attained Srotanni [Stream entry sainthood] , some attained Sakrdagamin [Once returner] , Anagamin [Never Returner] , Arhats hip [Perfect Saint] , Pratyeka-buddha stage ;
及 菩薩 道 阿鞞跋致 薩波若智。於如是事各得其一。
Some attained the Bodhisattva way or Avaivartika [nonreceding omniscience]
或有證得初地二地乃至 十地 。
Some were certified to attain the various stages of Bodhisattva-Bhumi (ten stages).
或有滿足 六波羅蜜 。其 婆羅門 遠塵離垢 得 五神通 。
Some of them were able to complete the six paramitas [perfections]. Those Brahmans left all defilements and attained five supernatural powers [abhijna].
時金剛手見此奇特希有之事。白言 世尊 妙哉奇異。
At that time, Vajrapani Bodhisattva saw this extraordinary event and said to the Buddha : -Good indeed , so extraordinary !
但聞此事尚獲如是殊勝 功德 況聞深理至心
We obtain such wonderful merits and virtues by hearing about it . If we wholeheartedly believe and understand its profound meaning ,
起信得幾 功德 。佛言諦聽汝金剛手。
how much merit and virtue can we obtain ? The Buddha said : -Listen , Vajrapani !
後世若有信男信女及復我等 四部弟子 。
In the future , if there are faithful men and faithful women in the four groups of my disciples
發心書寫此一經典。
who decide to copy this sutra ,
即准書寫九十九百千萬 俱胝 如來 所說 一切經 典。
it will be equal to copying all sutras spoken by ninety nine hundred thousand kotis Buddhas .
即過於彼九十九百千萬 俱胝 如來 之前久植善根。
It will be superior than good roots planted in front of ninety nine hundred thousand kotis Buddhas .
即亦彼諸一切 如來 。加持護念猶如愛眼。亦如慈母愛護幼子。
All the Buddhas will look after them , love them like protecting the eyes , like the love mothers have for their small children .
若人讀誦此一卷經。
If anybody reads this one sutra ,
即為讀誦過去現在未來諸佛所說經典。由如是故。
it is equal to reading all sutras spoken by all Buddhas from the past , the present and the future .
九十九百千萬 俱胝 一切 如來 應 正等覺 。
Because of this reason , ninety nine hundred thousand kotis Buddhas ,
側塞無隙猶如胡麻重疊赴來。晝夜現身加持其人。
like the multitude of sesame grains , will day and night visit and bless this person .
如是一切諸佛 如來 無數恒沙。
Thus all Buddhas are innumerable, as many as the sand grains in the Ganges River ,
前聚未去後群重來須臾推遷迴轉更赴。譬如細沙在水旋急。
They will appear in turns , days and nights , to protect this person
不得停滯迴去復來。
incessantly .
若有人以香華塗香華鬘衣服微妙嚴具供養此經。
If anybody made offerings to this sutra with incense , flowers , beautiful garments and wonderful decorations ,
即成於彼 十方 九十九百千萬 俱胝 如來 之前。
they will quickly transform into heavenly flowers , heavenly incense , heavenly clothes , heavently decorations made from the seven gems , appearing in front of ninety nine hundred thousand kotis Buddhas ,
以天香華衣服嚴具 七寶 所成。積如 須彌 盡以供養。
from the ten directions of the universe . These things piled up as high as Mount Sumeru to make offering .
種植善根亦復如是。
The good roots between them are the same .
爾時 天龍八部 人非人 等聞是說已。各懷希奇互相謂言。奇哉威德是朽土聚。
At that time , the celestials and the heaven dragons , the eight classes of supernatural beings , humans and non-humans heard about this . They felt very strange and talked to each other : - So unusual is this dilapidated stupa !
如來神力所加持故有是神變。
It has such awesome spiritual and magical powers because of the powers of all the Buddhas .
金剛手復白佛言。 世尊 何 因緣 故。是 七寶 塔現為土聚。
Vajrapani asked the Buddha again :-The World Honored One , why is the stupa made of seven jewels a mud mound now ?
佛告金剛手。此非土聚乃是殊妙 大寶 塔耳。
The Buddha told Vajrapani :- This is not a mound . This is a wonderful great stupa .
由諸眾生業果劣故隱蔽不現。
It does not appear because of the inferior karma of sentient beings .
由塔隱故 如來 全身非可毀壞。
The stupa was hiding the indestructible bodies of the Buddhas .
豈有 如來 金剛藏身而可壞哉。我若滅度後世 末法 逼迫之時。
How can the diamond-like bodies of the Buddhas be destroyed ? When I enter nirvana , in the age of decadence and evil ,
若有眾生習行非法應墮 地獄 。不信 三寶 不植善根。
there will be sentient beings who have done bad deeds and will be punished in hell, those who do not have faith in the Triple Jewels and those who do not plant good roots .
為是 因緣 佛法 當隱。然猶是塔堅固不滅。
the Dharma will be hidden because of these reasons . But this eternal Stupa would not be destroyed ,
一切 如來 神力所持。無智眾生惑障覆蔽。
because of the awesome powers from all the Buddhas have protected it . Sentient beings are ignorant (without wisdom) or blinded by bad hindrances .
徒朽珍寶不知採用。以是事故我今流淚。
They have precious jewels but don’t know how to use them . That is why I am weeping now .
彼諸 如來 亦皆流淚。復次佛告金剛手言。
All the other Buddhas have also wept .
若有眾生書寫此經置塔中者。
-If there are sentient beings who copy this sutra and put it into the stupa ,
是塔即為一切 如來 金剛藏窣都婆。
it will become a stupa storing the diamond bodies of all Buddhas .
亦為一切 如來 陀羅尼 心祕密加持窣都婆。
It is also a stupa of esoteric dharani s of all Buddhas .
即為九十九百千萬 俱胝 如來 窣都婆。亦為一切如來 佛頂 佛眼 窣都婆。
It is a stupa of ninety nine hundred thousand kotis Buddhas . It is also a stupa of all Buddhas’ tops and eyes .
即為一切 如來 神力所護。
It will be protected by the awesome powers of all Buddhas.
若佛像中窣都婆中安置此經。
If anybody put this sutra into a stupa or a Buddha statue ,
其像即為 七寶 所成靈驗應心無願不滿。其窣都婆傘蓋羅網輪橖露盤。
the statue will become a statue made with seven gems . It will be very efficacious and will fulfill all wishes .All the umbrellas , window covers , nets , wheels , plates ,
德宇鈴鐸楹礎基階隨力所辦。或土或木若石若甎。
bells below its roofs , its foundation and steps made with mud, wood, stone , or brick ,
由經威力自為 七寶 。
by this sutra magic power will become made with seven gems .
一切 如來 於此經典加其威力。以誠實言不斷加持。
With this sutra, all Buddhas will enhance the power of this stupa and continuously bless it .
若有有情能於此塔。一香一華禮拜供養。
If any sentient being prostrates himself before this stupa with an offering of a single flower and a single incense ,
八十億劫生死重罪一時消滅。生免災殃死生 佛家 。
all serious sins of eighty hundred thousands eons of lives will be removed. When he is alive , he will avoid all disasters . After he dies, he will be reborn in a Buddha land .
若有應墮 阿鼻地獄 。若於此塔。或一禮拜。或一右遶。
If any sentient being should be punished in the Avici Hell [suffering without interruption] when he prostrates himself before this stupa one time or walk around it one time ,
塞 地獄 門開 菩提 路。塔及形像所在之處。
the doors of hell will be closed , and the road of Bodhi [awakening] will be opened .
一切 如來 神力所護。
All Buddhas will bless by their spiritual powers any place where the stupa or the statue is located .
其處不為暴風雷電霹靂所害。不為毒蛇蚖蝮毒蟲毒獸所傷。
Such a place will have no hurricane , tornado or lightning to cause him harm . No poisonous snakes , poisonous worms or cruel animals may do him harm .
不為師子狂象虎狼野干蜂蠆之所傷害。
No crazy lion , mad elephant , tiger , wolf, scorpion or wild bees may do him harm .
亦無藥叉 羅剎 部多那毘舍。遮魑魅魍魎癲癎之怖。
No demons , malignant spirits , monsters or mountain spirits may cause him to be crazy or frightened .
亦復不為一切寒熱諸病。
Also no sickness from cold or hot weather .
癧瘻癰疽瘡疣疥癩所染。若人暫見是塔能除一切災難。
No cancer , no tumor of any kind , no epidemic, plague or leprosy outbreak will make him sick.
其處亦無人馬 六畜 童子童女疫癘之患。
Anybody will avoid disaster if he just has a look at this stupa . In that place, no epidemic , no leprosy will harm humans , children , or household animals .
不為橫死非命所夭。不為刀杖水火所傷。
They will not die an unnatural death or be wounded by knife , stick, water or fire .
不為 盜賊 怨讎所侵。亦無飢饉貧乏之憂。
or be harmed by robbers , thieves , or enemies or suffer from hunger, thirst, poverty, sadness or worries .
厭魅呪咀不能得便。 四大天王 與諸眷屬晝夜衛護。
No incantation from ghosts or demons may do them harm . Four Heaven Kings and their relatives will protect them day and night .
二十八部大藥叉將。日月 五星 幢雲彗星晝夜護持。
Twenty eight yaksha generals , the sun , the moon , stars , clouds and comets will protect them day and night .
一切 龍王 加其精氣順時降雨。
All the dragon Kings will give their energy and will make it rain on time .
一切諸天與 忉利天 。 三時 下來亦為供養。
All the heavenly celestials with the Gods from Thirty-three Heavens will come down to make offerings three times daily .
一切諸仙 三時 來集。讚詠旋遶禮謝瞻仰。 釋提桓因 與諸天女。
All the celestial beings will come three times daily to praise and pay respect to this place . Indra and all the heavenly ladies
晝夜 三時 來下供養。
will come down to do offerings three times daily .
其處即為一切 如來 護念加持。由納經故塔即如是。
This place is blessed by all Buddhas . This stupa is like that because this Sutra is kept inside .
若人作塔以土石木金銀銅鉛。書此神呪安置其中。
If anybody makes a stupa with mud , stone , wood , gold, silver and brass , copy this wonderful Dharani and put it inside ,
纔安置已。其塔即為 七寶 所成。上下階級露盤傘蓋。
then the stupa become a seven gems stupa once the Dharani is placed . Above and below the steps and the veranda are the canopies , umbrellas
bells and wheels made of seven gems . This stupa reflects the images of Buddhas in four directions .
由法要故。一切 如來 堅住護持晝夜不去。
They will give protection and blessing day and night because of this Dharani .
其 七寶 塔全身 舍利 之妙寶藏以呪威力擢竦。
The seven gems stupa became the Wonderful Treasury Store of whole body relics of the Buddhas. Due to the power of this Dharani .
高至阿迦尼吒天宮之中。塔所串峙一切諸天。
This stupa ‘s radiance reaches very high, even the Akanistha Heaven [End of forms] .The Stupa appears transparent and unique . All heavenly beings
晝夜瞻仰守衛供養。金剛手言何 因緣 故。
pay homage , protect and make offerings to this Stupa day and night . Vajrapani then asked : -Why does this Dharma
此法如是殊勝 功德 。
have unsurpassed merits and virtues ?
佛言當知以此寶篋印 陀羅尼 威神力 故。金剛手言。
The Buddha said : -Because of the spiritual magic power of the Casket Seal Dharani . Vajrapani said :
唯願 如來 哀愍我等。說是 陀羅尼 。佛言諦聽思念莫忘。
- We wish the Buddha to have pity on us and announce this Dharani . The Buddha said : -Listen carefully and do not forget .
現在未來一切 如來 分身光儀。過去諸佛全身 舍利 。
The emanations of all Buddhas of the present and the future and the whole body relics of all past Buddhas are
皆在寶篋印 陀羅尼 。
all in this Casket Seal Dharani .
是諸 如來 所有三身亦在是中。爾時 世尊 即說 陀羅尼 曰。
The Buddha ‘s three bodies are also inside . Then the Buddha spoke the Dharani :
那莫悉怛哩野(四合)地尾(二合)迦南(一)薩婆怛
他蘖多喃(二)唵(三)部尾婆嚩娜嚩唎(四)嚩者梨(五)
嚩者[齒*來](智皆反六)祖嚕祖嚕馱囉馱囉(七)薩嚩 怛他
蘖多(八)馱(引)覩馱梨鉢娜[牟*含](二合)婆嚩底(九)惹也
嚩梨(十)畝怛梨(二合)薩磨(二合)囉(十一) 怛他 蘗多

爾時佛說是神呪已。
When the Buddha finished speaking this Dharani ,
諸佛 如來 自土聚中出聲讚言。善哉善哉 釋迦 世尊 。
All Buddhas praised from the earth mound :-Good indeed , good indeed , Sakyamuni !
出 濁惡世 為利無依無怙眾生。演說深法。
You have come to this turbid world and speak this profound Dharma for the benefits of all living beings who have nobody to rely on .
如是法要久住世間。利益廣多安穩快樂。于時佛告金剛手言。
This important Dharma will stay on for the benefit , peace , and happiness of the world for a long time . At that time, the Buddha told Vajrapani :
諦聽諦聽如是法要。神力無窮利益無邊。
- Listen ! listen ! This important Dharma has immeasurable spiritual power and uncountable benefits .
譬如幢上 如意寶珠 。常雨珍寶滿一切願。
like the magic precious gems on the banners . It often pours down gems to fulfill all wishes .
我今略說萬分之一。汝宜憶持利益一切。
I am just telling you one part in ten thousandt parts of this Dharma . You should remember for the benefit of all.
若有惡人死墮 地獄 。受苦無間免脫無期。
If any evil person fell into hell after death and suffered constantly without knowing when he could be released .
有其子孫稱亡者名。誦上神呪纔至七遍。
If his son or grandson called the dead person’s name and recite this Dharani seven times ,
洋銅熱鐵忽然變為八 功德 池。蓮生承足寶蓋駐頂。
then, in hell. melting copper and hot iron armaments would become suddenly a pond full of water of eight merits and virtues . A lotus flower carries him with a precious canopy above his head .
地獄門破 菩提道 開。其蓮如飛至 極樂 界。
The hell gate will be broken and the road to Enlightenment will open . A lotus flower will fly him to the Ultimate Bliss realm 。
一切種智自然顯發。樂說無窮位在補處。
Omniscience and wisdom appear naturally; he will joyfully preach the Dharma for the salvation of all sentient beings and will be in a position to become the successor Buddha .
復有眾生重罪報故。百病集身苦痛逼心。
If any person suffers bad health , acute pain and mental illness due to karmic retribution for their past misdeeds ,
誦此神呪二十一遍。百病萬惱一時消滅。
They could recite this awesome dharani 21 times and all the sickness and all the suffering will disappear .
壽命延長福德無盡。若復有人慳貪業故生貧窮家。
He will enjoy uncountable blessings and long life .If one lives in a poor family ,
衣不隱身食不續命。[(禾*尤)/里]瘦衰蔽人所惡賤。
always hungry and without enough clothing , he looks very thin and weak .
是人慚愧入山折採無主搹華。若磨朽木持以號香。
People don’t like to see him and he feels ashamed . If he goes up to a mountain harvests wild flowers , grinds wood to make incense ,
往至塔前禮拜供養。旋遶七匝流淚悔過。
and goes to this stupa to make an offering of flowers and incense , and walks around the stupa clockwise seven times , repenting and weeping .
由神呪力及塔威德。滅貧窮報富貴忽至。
Then his poverty will disappear and wealth will come suddenly , the seven gems come in raining , due to the awesome dharani and stupa power .
七寶如雨無所闕乏。但當此時彌飾 佛法 施與貧乏。
But this time he should make offering to the Buddha and the Dharma and donate generously to the poor .
若有悋惜財寶忽滅。
If he keeps the wealth to himself , the wealth will vanish sudden .
若復有人為種善根隨分造塔。或泥或甎隨力所辦。
If one makes a stupa with a height of four fingers for planting good roots , using clay or brick according to his ability ,
大如菴羅高四指許。書寫神呪安置其中。持以香華禮拜供養。
writes this powerful Dharani and places it into this stupa and prostrates himself before this stupa with fragrant flowers ,
以其呪力及信心故。自小塔中出大香雲。
Then a fragrant cloud will come out from this small stupa because of the power of this Dharani and of his faith .
香氣雲光 周遍法界 。薰馥晃曜廣 作佛事 。
The fragrance and the radiance will spread all over the dharma-realm ,
所得 功德 如上所說。取要言之無願不滿。
doing miracles with no wishes unfulfilled .
若有 末世 四輩弟子善男善女。
In the age of Dharma decadence , if noble men and noble women of the four groups of Buddhist disciples ,
為 無上道 盡力造塔安置神呪。所得 功德 說不可盡。
strive to build a stupa and place the miraculous Dharani in it , the resulting virtues and merits will be immeasurable .
若人求福至其塔所。一華一香禮拜供養右旋行道。
One may come to the Stupa , pray for a blessing ,offer a flower or an incense , prostate himself , make an offering to the Stupa and walk around the Stupa clockwise several times .
由是 功德 官位榮耀不求自至。
Because of such merits , this person will gain happiness , high position and fame without effort ,
壽命富饒不祈自增。怨家 盜賊 不討自敗。怨念呪咀不厭歸本。
will obtain longetivity and wealth without asking , and will defeat enemies and thieves witout fighting . Curses and hatred will disappear ;
疫癘邪氣不拔自避。善夫良婦不求自得。
Epidemics and plagues will vanish ; he will marry happily ,
賢男美女不禱自生。一切所願任意滿足。
bear intelligent sons and beautiful daughters without praying and all his wishes will be fulfilled .
若有烏雀鵄梟鳩鴿。
If there are birds , crows , doves , dogs , wolves , mosquitoes and
鵂鶹狗狼野干蚊虻蟻螻之類。暫來塔影及踏場草。摧破惑障 覺悟 無明。
ants coming to the shadow of this stupa or stepping on the grassland , they will get rid of their delusions and ignorance ,
忽入 佛家 恣領 法財 。況有眾人或見塔形。
will enter the Buddha family and receive the Dharma riches . Moreover if any person sees the picture of the stupa ,
或聞鐸聲或聞其名。
hears the sound of its bells , hears its reputation ,
或當其影罪障悉滅所求如意。現世安穩後生 極樂 。
or is in the shadow of this stupa , all obstructions and sins will be demolished and all wishes will be fulfilled . He will enjoy a peaceful life and be reborn in the world of Ultimate Bliss 。
或人隨力以一丸泥塗塔壞壁。運一拳石扶塔礩傾。
If anyone uses a little mud to pave a broken wall of this stupa or insert a rock to push up the leaning stupa ,
由此 功德 增福延壽。命終之後成轉 輪王 。
By those merits and virtues his blessings and lifespan will be raised .He will become a Wheel Turning Emperor after this life .
若我滅後 四部弟子 。於是塔前濟苦界故。
After my nirvana , if any body in the four familes of my disciples offers incense and flowers , sincerely vows to read this Dharani in front of the stupa and to relieve the suffering of all sentient beings in three bad realms of reincarnation [hell , hungry ghosts , animals],
供養香華至心發願誦念神呪。文文句句放大光明。
then at every word and every sentence , great lights will shine directly on the bad realms and deliver these beings from suffering .
照觸 三途 苦具皆辟。眾生脫苦 佛種 牙萌。

隨意 往生 十方 淨土 。若人往在高山峰上至心誦呪。
They will be reborn in any Pure Land as they wish . If anybody standing on a hill reads this Dharani heartily , all living beings with hair , feather , scales and shells
眼根所及。遠近世界。山谷林野江湖河海。
that are living in the mountains, forests , rivers , and seas within the sight of this man ,
其中所有毛羽鱗甲一切生類。
all these beings
碎破惑障 覺悟 無明。顯現本有 三種 佛性。畢竟安處 大涅槃 中。
will break the delusional ignorance . They understand the three buddha-natures . Ultimately they will reach the eternal peace of Nirvana .
若與此人往過道路。或觸衣風或踏其跡。
If anybody walks with this person on the same road , or has touched his clothes or stepped on his footsprints ,
或唯見面或暫交語。
or meets him , or talks to him ,
如是等人重罪咸滅悉地圓滿。爾時佛告金剛手言。
then all serious sins will be abolished and he will certainly attain the complete Enlightement . At that time the Buddha told Vajrapani : “ Now I entrust this secret mysterious Dharani Sutra to you ,
今此祕密神呪經典付囑汝等。尊重護持流布世間。
You should pay homage to it , protect it , and widely propagate it all over the world .
不令眾生傳受斷絕。金剛手言。我今幸蒙 世尊 付囑。
Don’t let living beings fail to learn it .” Vajrapani said to the Buddha : “ I am so lucky to have the trust of the World Honored One . I will,
唯願我等為報 世尊 深重恩德。
to pay my debt of gratitude to the Buddha ,
晝夜護持流布宣揚一切世間。
protect and propagate this sutra day and night to the world
若有眾生書寫受持憶念不斷。我等麾催 釋梵 四王龍神八部。
If somebody copies , upholds , and recites continuously this sutra , I will urge Heaven King Indra , the four guardian kings , all dragons , and the eight divisions of divinities
晝夜守護不暫捨離。佛言善哉金剛手。
to protect this person day and night and not to leave him .” The Buddha then said :” Good indeed , Vajrapani .
汝為 未來世 一切眾生大利益故。護持此法令不斷絕。
You protect this Dharma and do not let it be forgotten for the benefit of the coming living sentient beings of the future .”
爾時 世尊 。說此寶篋印 陀羅尼 廣 作佛事 。
At that time the World-honored One had spoken of the Casket Seal Dharani and accomplished great deeds .
然後往彼 婆羅門 家受諸供養。
After that they went to the Brahman home and accepted his offerings .
令時人天獲大福利却還所住。
They gave great benefits to all celestial beings , humans , non humans and then returned to their residence .
爾時大眾 比丘 比丘尼 優婆塞 優婆夷 。
At that time all the Bhikshus , Bhikshunis , laymen , laywomen ,
天龍 夜叉 犍闥婆阿修羅 迦樓羅 緊那羅 摩睺羅伽 人非人 等。皆大歡喜信受奉行。
gods, dragons , yakshas , asuras , kinnaras , gandharvas , mahoragas , garudas , humans and non humans … all happily believed , accepted , upheld and practiced this Sutra .
